Our story
at Balon

Balon is led by Andrew Baker, a computer scientist and AI researcher with specializations in artificial intelligence & machine learning, with a secondary specialty in cryptography. Baker's past areas of research included theoretical reduction in modern & future computing architectures, covering linear reduction in physical computing and electron drift via quantum tunneling, along with designing schematics for a ML-enabled system to augment marketing personnel at a multi-national conglomerate in the United Arab Emirates.

That work laid the foundation for Balon's core insight: that hallucination is not a model problem. It is an architecture problem. The solution is not a better model. It is a better system, one where validation happens inside the network itself, and where every model generates and grades simultaneously, in parallel, with no sequential bottleneck.

The name Balon is a fusion of the surnames of the company's original co-founders: Baker and Wellons, a deliberate nod to the collaboration that started it all.

In the earliest days of Balon, Matthew Wellons co-founded the company alongside Baker, contributing to the initial direction of the business. The two shared a vision for what Balon could become, and Matthew was a meaningful part of getting it off the ground. As the company's focus sharpened and the path forward came into clearer view, their journeys diverged, amicably and with mutual respect. Matthew moved on to pursue other things, and Balon continued forward with the research at its core.

Arif Hosein entered as Balon's first institutional backer, investing $100K at an initial $500K valuation. But his involvement went well beyond capital. He stepped in first as a Board Member, providing strategic oversight and helping shape the company's early direction. As the relationship deepened, he took on the role of Chief Strategy Officer, working alongside Baker on fundraising strategy, partnerships, and long-term positioning. He has since moved into his current role as Chief Operating Officer, overseeing day-to-day leadership and helping steer the company through its Seed round and into production.

Together, Baker and Hosein have built Balon from a research hypothesis into a funded, patented, production-ready platform accepted into Microsoft Founders Hub, AWS Startups, MongoDB for Startups, and Brex, while maintaining headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia.
